Meet the New President

Edul (Ed) M. Daver, president of ACuPowder International, LLC, Union, New Jersey, assumes office as MPIF’s 23rd president at the close of the Fall Management Conference on October 19. He succeeds David L. Schaefer, managing director of Cloyes Europe GmbH.

Daver joined ACuPowder’s predecessor, Alcan Powder & Pigments, in 1967 after receiving an MS in metallurgical engineering from the University of Wisconsin. Beginning as a researcher, he took on increasing responsibilities, such as production manager and plant manager, before being named president in 1988. During this time he earned an MBA in industrial management from Fairleigh Dickinson University. In 1995, he led a management team to buy the business from Alcan and formed ACuPowder International.

Giving back to the metal powder industry has always been a high priority for Daver. He served as chairman of the New York chapter of APMI and as a director of the Metal Powder Producers Association where he is completing a second term as president.

“PM has a good future globally,” Daver says. However, he is concerned about the U.S. market entering a sustained period of slower growth bordering on no-growth or a slight decline. He reasons that the loss of market share among the Big 3 and the offshore manufacturing of electronics, power tools, and appliances are impacting domestic PM parts demand negatively. He sees this both as a threat and an opportunity for MPIF to increase its global outreach. “There will always be a local market for PM but we must think beyond North America,” he says.
